There was a discussion among reporters at my table as to whether arguing about gay marriage with college students was a smart thing for Santorum to be doing at a time when, according to conventional wisdom, he should be acting more “mainstream.” In that conversation, I was the devil’s advocate in defense of Santorum, arguing that what he did was to signal to conservatives his willing to fight for their cause, even in hostile environments. But then again, I don’t think Santorum was thinking of strategy at all: What you see is what you get, and he’s not going to change his style.

Good.  This is a time for sticking to your guns and not retreating one blessed inch.

So is the case with this news, straight from the dull and dowdy dickhead’s own thin-lipped, weasely little pursed mouth [tip of the fedora to Memeorandum] [emphasis all mine]:

FrumForum launched itself almost exactly three years ago, on Inauguration Day 2009. Over the subsequent interval, our hundreds of contributors have reached more than 5 million individual readers. I like to think that together we have helped to move the national debate. When we launched, Sarah Palin was a leading candidate for president and Glenn Beck was broadcasting conspiracy theories on cable TV. Three years later–not so much. OK, maybe we can’t claim all the credit. But we won’t refuse some fair share.

Now like all good things, this adventure is coming to an end. I’ve been invited to move my blog and print journalism to the Daily Beast/Newsweek, a larger and more technologically advanced platform. Tina Brown is one of the great media visionaries of our time. The opportunity to work with her–and learn from her–is deeply exciting.

Starting Monday, my work will shift to the Daily Beast/Newsweek site. The FrumForum URL will forward readers to the David Frum page at Daily Beast/Newsweek. FrumForum itself will continue to exist as an archive site, preserving three years of debate–the brilliant insights of our writers–and the passionate comments of our readers. Yesterday evening, after enjoying some of Mrs. B’s great beef soup, I went to bed and stayed there for sixteen hours.

I’ve just spent the past ninety minutes trying to catch-up on things and will probably do a few quickie posts, try to respond to comments that have been left, and seek to get a Rule 5 News done, but I can make no promises at this time.

One of the problems we in the US have is that we haven’t really seen tyranny up close, so we seem to think of it in cartoonish ways — a dictator in his camouflage fatigues and a Radar O’Reilly cap speaking from a balcony while the masses, ringed by a military protectorate, gather below and clap like trained seals — and as a result, we can’t believe it is actually happening here, now, in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

But it is. And Obama is telling you so [Jeff's referencing the comment from BHO I quoted here]. Harry Reid is telling you so. The activist progressive media is telling you so.

And what’s worse, I truly believe that at least some of the GOP, seeing the possibilities for such heretofore unprecedented usages of power, are content to wait their turn, to win elections and gain control of the kind of mammoth centralized government the Founders and Framers feared most, one that reinforces the institution of a permanent political class that will eventually be almost entirely beyond the reach of the people it ostensibly represents.

Obama is laying the groundwork for the dissolution of the Constitution. He is saying as much. So again I ask, is it okay, finally, to speak aloud precisely what it is this Marxist ideologue is doing? Or are we again to retreat to Wikipedia to challenge the nuanced historical accuracies of calling Obama a liberal fascist, or a Marxist, or a socialist, and so on — despite what we know about his mentors, his education, and his prior roles in community organizing and local government?

Spot-on and dead solid perfect.

In answer to your question, Jeff: it is imperative that we shout it out loud and keep shouting it until that Truth sinks into as many brains of those who are in denial as possible. It is our main obligation as we pull guard duty for The Republic.
