Cleaning Out The Cache

08 February 2010 @ 19:12

Here’s the latest and some stuff I haven’t had a chance to get to as we’ve been hurtling our way along the road to perdition…

-First off: A big and hearty set of congratulations to William Jacobson, proprietor of Legal Insurrection, for passing the two million hit mark late last week.  This is quite an achievement, but he seems to be very modest about it:

I missed it earlier today because I do not pay much attention to these meaningless traffic statistics. I just don’t focus on traffic, rarely think about traffic, and frankly, don’t care about traffic. I’m just as happy on a quiet traffic day when the traffic is light due to low traffic.

Modesty in a law professor is a rare thing.

-All too often throughout history, the words ‘perilous’ and ‘Jews’ have had to be used together.  So it is again in Europe as Mark Steyn shows in his aggregation of the latest news from there: Seems Like Old Times.  His final comment is spot-on:

But Abe Foxman thinks Rush Limbaugh is the problem . . .

Let me be the one to say, though I am not Jewish: I think it rather obvious by his actions that Abe Foxman is a self-hating Jew.

-The capo di tutti capi of Federalists, Smitty, takes on a numbskull named David Siorta and permeates the core of the Leftist brain, which is a hard thing to do because its all dark in there and there are cobwebs and icky spiders and Pelosi guano.

-Back a couple of weeks ago, Paco published a great posting on one of the biggest impediments we face to reforming the national government: unionized government workers, who now make up more than fifty percent of union membership in America.

-Rick, over at Wizbang, has a story of evil with links to a report and video of what a Muslim girl had to endure at the hands of the male members of her Islamic family.  His final comment is dead solid perfect:

How anyone can think we can coexist with this sort of wickedness is beyond me.

The only ones who do are those who have lost their souls.

-Tip of the fedora to William Teach, Commander-In-Chief of The Pirate’s Cove, for recommending the Wizbang posting.  He was also kind enough to direct folks to my most recent Rule 5 Saturday posting featuring Diana Dors.  Don’t forget, to get the straight poop on the fraud known—these days anyway—as ‘climate change’ visit his site often.  His latest [and its a good one] can be found my clicking here.

Nation Of Cowards reports on the news that the Jihadists may be planting bombs in Muslim women’s breast implants and ‘the new spirit of cooperation between this blog and lowlife scumbag Jihadi’ he suggests some Western girls as candidates for the operation.  His four choices are good ones, but what about Salma Hayek:

Need I say it, but I know I wouldn’t be the only red-blooded patriotic American who would volunteer to disarm those bombs….country first, I always say.

-With the recent death of Catcher In The Rye author J.D. Salinger, there has been much praise lauded on the mysterious author and his very influential book.  In a very perceptive mini-essay over at Washington Rebel, Rob De Witt argues that the effect of the book has been overwhelmingly negative.  A highlight:

Thousands upon thousands of words have been published in the last few days since the news of Salinger’s death was made public. Most if not all of them have appeared in deeply-felt essays detailing the profound influence Catcher had on the writers’ developing angst, and taken together they form a striking portrait of the emergence of the phenomenon of The Teenager in the ’50s. Up until that time we were all just kids, and everybody wanted to grow up as fast as possible. As Robert B. Parker’s Spenser once put it, “I’ve been a kid, and I’ve been an adult. Adult’s better.” And now Parker’s gone too, dammit.

-Last week, Donald Douglas tackled the dangers the massive deficits that are being run up by the leftists in office pose to american power in a very troubled world.

-Also last week, The Daley Gator looked at the negative consequences of Obama’s plan to hand over control of the Internet to foreign powers hostile to freedom [ie: the fascist/socialist one-worlders].

-From The Lonely Conservative we learn that our Fearless Leader is, it seems, not only comfortable being friendly with brutal dictators and counts communists like Van Jones and terrorists like Bill Ayers as worthy of providing him counsel, but he likes anti-Catholics as well to advise him.

-Over at Grandpa John’s, Steve Burri [The Good Burri] now knows what Obama voters feel like.

-02 February was the anniversary of the birth of Ayn Rand.  Had she lived, she would have been 105 years old.  I forgot about the day, but Lance Burri [The Evil Burri] remembered and—jeez, I hate to admit this—he probably found the only photo of her that could ever be classified as being a Rule 5 picture.

-06 February was Ronald Reagan’s birthday.  He would have been 99 years old.  The world is a much sadder place without having him in it.  Paco posted a nice little tribute to the man who now sits in that shining city on a hill waiting for Nancy to join him.  A highlight:

…Above all, Reagan serves to remind us that real charisma, at bottom, is dependent on character, dignity and substantive ideas….

-Over at The Corner, author Paul Kengor posted a tribute on Saturday:

Central to that likability was Reagan’s humility. The word “I” didn’t dominate his conversation, unless he was poking fun at himself. He was no narcissist. Ronald Reagan was not full of pride; he was thoroughly unpossessed of self-love.

He then goes on to tell a wonderful story about President Reagan and a driver named Joe Bullock.

'Only our deep moral values and our strong social institutions can holdback the jungle and restrain the darker impulses of human nature.'

Now that she’s shaved off the mustache Mizz Hayek would make an excellent choice!
