Rally ‘Round The Flag:

An occasional feature designed to buck-up the Wolverines as they battle to defeat the forces of Absurdistan…

-In a posting entitled Let’s Win One For The Gipper, the Hyphenated American, who lived under the Marxist-Leninist regime in the USSR, calls all of us to our duty stations as the guardians of American Freedom:

The United States of America fought with multiple tyrants all over the world – who were smarter, more devious and powerful than Obama – and yet, America was always victorious. If you feel like something is lost, and the battle cannot be won – do you think you would dare to look in the eyes of Texan heroes in Alamo, or the soldiers of Normandy, Bastogne and Ivo Jima – and tell them that you are their grandchildren, and one lousy affirmative action clown managed to turn you into a pussy?! I won’t believe this for a second.

Of course, we can and we will win. This won’t be easy, this will require one hell of a hard work – but it can be done – and therefore it will be done. Even if the Obamacare bill were written in blood of Satan – we can still repeal it. We are Americans, for God’s sake, we are not French. Surrender is not what Americans are good at, now, is it?

I don’t want my readers to misunderstand my letter – indeed the Obamacare is a horrible document which will drastically worsen the economic situation in this country. But this is hardly the end of the war for this nation – conservatives are just warming up. The first test of how strong the Tea Party movement is will be in November 2010. This is the time when it will become clear what American people made off – can they still claim that they are the heirs of the Founding Fathers and that they still deserve to call themselves Americans – or we should start calling ourselves “Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys”.

Well, what do you say? Which one do you choose?

-While she was hanging out on her Catholic Corner, General Adrienne unveiled her battle plan for Christians:

…If we keep in mind our ultimate goal (eternal life with Christ), then a two-pronged effort is the only way to proceed. All this outrage needs to be channeled into productive activity, both personal and public.

Do we need to get active to oppose the forces of darkness? Absolutely. We need to educate ourselves and our friends. We need to donate money, and volunteer for the few good people running for public office. But the second prong demands that we understand our relationship with our Lord and Savior.

God does indeed help those who help themselves.

-As Val Prieto reminded us on the day Julius Obamacus Caesar signed the health care bill, it was the anniversary of these famous words being spoken by Patrick Henry in 1775:

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, “Peace! Peace!” — but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!

Mr. Prieto then uses the story of one Edward Carrington, who heard the speech being given, to marshal we, the Children of Liberty [I hope he doesn’t mind that I’m quoting most of the posting here]:

Today, outside a window at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, there stands a grave and marker that’s not at all fancy but is of monumental importance. From Paul Johnson’s A History of the American People:

Then Henry got to his knees, in the posture of a manacled slave, intoning in a low but rising voice: ‘Is life so dear, our peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!’ He then bent to the earth with his hands still crossed, for a few seconds, and suddenly sprang to his feet, shouting, ‘Give me liberty!’ and flung wide his arms, paused, lowered his arms, clenched his right hand as if holding a dagger at his breast, and said in sepulchral tones: ‘Or give me death!’ He then beat his breast, with his hand holding the imaginary dagger.

There was silence, broken by a man listening at the open window, who shouted: “Let me be buried on this spot!

The man standing at that open window, so inspired by Henry that he felt compelled to yell “Let me buried on this spot!” – and who was subsequently buried on that spot – was Edward Carrington. While later on he served in the Continental Army, was a delegate to the Continental Congress and became Virginia’s first U.S Marshall, at the time of Henry’s speech, Carrington was just a regular Joe. A concerned citizen. One distressed with what was happening around him. Concerned about his country and his freedom and the usurpation of same. A regular Joe who understood the absolute importance of regular Joes in the fight against despotism.

It’s safe to say that we are living somewhat resonant historical moments. Today our lives are being intruded upon by a government running roughshod over our civil liberties and our freedoms are being diluted and usurped through arrogant prevarication and agenda driven policy. And make no bones about this: we aren’t losing our freedoms, they are being taken away from us.

Yeah, the jury is still out on whether we have leaders of the caliber of a Patrick Henry today, but we certainly have no shortage of Edward Carringtons. Each and every one of you knows that the most valuable thing you have is your freedom. Each and every one of you knows that it will be up to you to ensure those freedoms for yourselves and for your progeny. Each and every one of you reading this is an Edward Carrington.

So if today’s signing of the health care farce has you a bit disappointed and maybe a little frustrated, just remember that you are Edward Carrington, American Patriot. Consider every phone call to a congressman, every email you send, every editorial you share, every dollar you donate, every poster you create and every protest you attend to be your own shout outside that window: Let me be buried on this spot!

Just like this day back in 1775, our country needs every Edward Carrington it can muster.

We’re all Edward Carringtons now.

-Over at the wonderfully and appropriately titled Truth Before Dishonor, John Hitchcock is already in his field uniform and calling the muster [I hope he, too, doesn’t mind my extensive quoting from his posting]:

To those on the left, I say THIS AIN’T OVER by any stretch of the imagination. To those on the right, Winston Churchill says “Never surrender. Never, never, never surrender.” This isn’t the end. This isn’t even the beginning of the end. This is merely the end of the beginning.

Many on the right were calling ObamaCare Obama’s Waterloo. Now, many on the left are calling the House vote our Waterloo. Both are wrong. We on the right have faced our Dunquerque and our Pearl Harbor. This ObamaCare process to this point has been our Corregidor, Singapore, North Africa. We are now in our Tobruk and Guadalcanal stage. And Patton is making his preparations for the North Africa campaign.

The reconciliation package faces many hurdles in the Senate. Hundreds of lawsuits are in the works. I have seen information suggesting multiple aspects of ObamaCare will not survive in court, based in part on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th Amendments. States are bucking ObamaCare. Like Rommel’s over-extended North Africa supply line, Israel’s over-exuberant Sainai campaign (for their protection from Egypt), our “Bridge Too Far,” the left has over-extended itself and is very vulnerable in multiple ways.

It’s time to turn the Primary season into Sicily, Italy, Coral Sea, and the November off-year election into Midway, Normandy. And thinking down the road, turn the 2012 Primaries into the Battle of the Bulge and Iwo Jima. Then the 2012 general election will become the Crossing of the Rhine and Nagasaki. And, yes, we will still have the long-term cleanup that will follow.

The days are indeed dark right now, but Bismarck is gone and Truk is being severely harmed. This is definitely not a time for the weak-hearted and defeatists. This is a time for stoicism and resolve. The left has made a critical error: they have awakened the Slumbering Giant. And the Slumbering Giant is not at all pleased.

I have been wandering around the blogosphere and I have seen some demoralized folk. I already went through that stage myself, after this monstrosity of a government take-over of our liberties was passed. But I have also seen plenty of resolve. People all across the country are donning their armor and doing battle to take our country back and put the Constitution and Declaration of Independence back in prominence.

Never before has an “entitlement” package ever been repealed. I have heard that from the rightosphere. But never before have Conservatives demonstrated en masse. Until 2009. There is a reason the “Silent Majority” was very apt, but no more. We are no longer silently plodding along. We are loudly standing up and being counted. Looking throughout history, “never before” usually meets up with “until now.” Well, this is the “until now” that the left doesn’t want to believe can happen and some on the right don’t believe can happen. But it will happen, with stoicism and resolve.

Do not forget that the colonists were not all in favor of independence. In fact, 1/3 were in favor of continued subservience to King George, 1/3 were in favor of independence, and 1/3 decided they didn’t have a dog in the fight.

    It was a Scot, the father of the Scottish Enlightenment, which created the modern world, who identified liberty as the basis of civilization in a systematic theological, social, political, psychological, moral and economic way all at once. His name was Francis Hutcheson and he was a Presbyterian Clergyman and Professor at Glasgow University.
