Where No Iman Has Gone Before [Whoosh!]

07 July 2010 @ 14:42

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden told the Al-Jazerra Terrorist Television Network the following [emphasis mine]:

When I became the NASA administrator — or before I became the NASA administrator – [Obama] charged me with three things,” Bolden said. “One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering.

WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT???

Paco, CEO of Paco Enterprises, being a much calmer person than I am [that’s why he’s head of such a large, successful concern], comments on the lack of logic and sense in this outreach:

…In the first place, Muslim countries will most likely view this outreach as another of the administration’s acts of cringing ingratiation that so thoroughly smack of weakness. Secondly, it seems like a move of unwitting condescension, in which the U.S. pats the Muslims on the head and tells them what splendid fellows they are for having had ancestors who made important contributions to math and science, oh, some four or five hundred years ago.

The only thing missing here is rubbing their turbaned heads for good luck.

Now…please understand: I’ve got nothing against treating the Muslims like they’re inferior [they are morally], but condescending only, as Paco states, furthers Islam’s belief that we’re a weakened culture.  What concerns me here is the attitude of the Royal Court.  Charles Krauthammer has come up with the best commentary on this:

This is a new of fatuousness. NASA was established to get America into space and to keep us there. This idea of ‘feel good about your past’ scientific achievements is the worst kind of group therapy, psycho-babble, imperial condescension and adolescent diplomacy. If I didn’t know that Obama had told him this, I’d demand the firing of Charles Bolden.

The Muslims are cunning animals and can smell weakness.  And like the animals they are, they’re plotting just the right way to pounce.

If fact, we’re surrounded by all sorts of different types of animals in the jungle that is the world these days.  The Red Chinese, the Russians, the North Koreans, etc.: all are waiting to pounce.

If America survives the next two-plus years it will be a miracle.

If one looks at my avatar, one can see a classic contribution to the fine but ancient barbaric art of “deconstruction.”

This just sounds perfect. President Obama brings in a new man to head up the National Aeronautic and Space Administration, and what does he lay down as the goals? inspire children to do math, expand international relationships (that’s a nice warm and fuzzy) and find a way to dialogue with the Muslim world.

Well, as to the last item, I’m sure he could get their interest if he started babbling about flight control and orbital stability, kinda like what Wild Bill and his buddies over at Loral Corporation pulled off in transferring US ballistic missile technology to the Chi Coms. The Grand Jury investigation of Loral was undercut when it was learned President Clinton had given his approval for the transfer.

The Chi Coms have those orbital stability problem fixed now, as the Taiwanese, Hawaiians and West Coast are well aware.

As an aside, it wasn’t all for nothing. The Clinton campaign did get a healthy contribution from the PLA of China for the ’96 campaign. When this contribution was discovered the Clinton administration fresh off their re-election success agreed to instruct their campaign to return the funds.

Apparently, it was all a misunderstanding.

You know, one the saddest things is: Bolden is a Marine.

How does the absence of a space program encourage math and science?
