The Spot-On Quote Of The Week…

05 November 2010 @ 23:27

…is awarded to Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, for understanding what is the most important parallel between the last days of The Roman Republic and the current days of The American Republic:

I think the Roman Republic ended because its political class had more loyalty to themselves than to the republic.

Spot-on.

There in a nutshell is why The American Experiment will fail, if it does fail.  If we keep electing people to govern us who are only in it for themselves and care nothing for the traditions, laws, and constitutions that The Founders fought so hard to create, we should not be surprised if it all comes crashing down in an orgy of corruption, decrepitude, and terror.

The Presidential Election of 2008 had a scary outcome — watching the way Obama voters talked about the man made one think of the rise of Dictator Julius Caesar and how debased the citizenry was.  Unlike The Roman Republic, it appears we’re not as depraved as the citizens of Rome…yet.

Citizenship in a Republic demands eternal vigilance against the corrupt of soul [crooks and Leftists alike] who inhabit the nation and seek to enslave it to their whims, and also against the apathy that so easily can find a home within our breasts especially in times of abundance.

This is our last, real chance.
