The Righteous Rant Of The Day… [Updated Below]

…is awarded, not to Steve Wynn, but me, as you will see…

During the course of the Wynn Resorts’s quarterly conference call yesterday, Mr. Wynn launched into a diatribe of Barack Hussein Obama [tip of the fedora to Ed Driscoll]:

I believe in Las Vegas. I think its best days are ahead of it. But I’m afraid to do anything in the current political environment in the United States. You watch television and see what’s going on on this debt ceiling issue. And what I consider to be a total lack of leadership from the President and nothing’s going to get fixed until the President himself steps up and wrangles both parties in Congress. But everybody is so political, so focused on holding their job for the next year that the discussion in Washington is nauseating.

And I’m saying it bluntly, that this administration is the greatest wet blanket to business, and progress and job creation in my lifetime. And I can prove it and I could spend the next 3 hours giving you examples of all of us in this market place that are frightened to death about all the new regulations, our healthcare costs escalate, regulations coming from left and right. A President that seems, that keeps using that word redistribution. Well, my customers and the companies that provide the vitality for the hospitality and restaurant industry, in the United States of America, they are frightened of this administration. And it makes you slow down and not invest your money. Everybody complains about how much money is on the side in America.

You bet and until we change the tempo and the conversation from Washington, it’s not going to change. And those of us who have business opportunities and the capital to do it are going to sit in fear of the President. And a lot of people don’t want to say that. They’ll say, God, don’t be attacking Obama. Well, this is Obama’s deal and it’s Obama that’s responsible for this fear in America.

The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don’t invest, their holding too much money. We haven’t heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody’s afraid of the government and there’s no need soft peddling it, it’s the truth. It is the truth. And that’s true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid. I support Democrats and Republicans. And I’m telling you that the business community in this company is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States. And until he’s gone, everybody’s going to be sitting on their thumbs.

So, it looks like Mr. Wynn has finally removed his head from his big arse and now sees the light, at least about Comrade Obamnin.

That’s nice. I’m happy for him.

Message For Mr. Wynn: Well, you putz, have you learned from this? Or are you going to continue to be a butt boy for the Bolshes, who, whether you want to believe it or not, have been using you for your money [that Harry Reid statement shows you’ve got a long way to go, roulette-breath]. Or will you continue because you see yourself as part of an Elite that, by all that is right, should be ruling things because you all know better than us peons [or is it pee-ons, ’cause I know I’m tired of that Establishment Golden Shower I’m walking through every damn day?]?

If the stories are to be believed, you showed some courage in getting the Mob out of Vegas, show some now and have the courage to see that you’ve been on the wrong side of right in providing support to people who hate this country and that precious Free Market you claim to love. Otherwise, you’re just another Elitest hack who is going to get mighty wet when that hard rain falls.

UPDATE at 2011…

William Jacobson is spot-on:

…Would the layoffs in November 2008 through January 2009 — which regularly are blamed on Bush — have been as bad except for the business fear of what was to come under Obama? I think not, businesses prepared for the worst, which is exactly what they got.

Uncertainty makes bulls into bears every time.  It’s the reasonable thing to do.

-J. Peter Freire reminds us of some of Mr. Wynn’s previous adventures:

And interesting trivia: Wynn donated to the campaign of Billy Tauzin III, who ran for his father’s seat after his father left Congress and took a job as a lobbyist for PhRMA. Dad’s crowning achievement in that position? Obamacare.

Perhaps Wynn’s support for politicians whose policies he despises makes him a more credible critic — he even donated to Obama’s campaign in 2008. But supporting Reid still is an untenable position when crying out against big government.

The Memeorandum thread.

That’s a mighty fine rant, pardner. I presume Wynn voted for Barry, and if he didn’t know all this before November 2008 he wasn’t paying attention. I mean, better late than never and all but…duh.

Robert: It always amazes me how smart these guys can be when it comes to making deals, seeing opportunties no one else does, and fending off competitors, and, yet, they are unable to grasp when a politician is out to destroy them.
