About

Your kind is extinct; we are the inheritors.
Do you understand that you are alone?
You are outside history, you are non-existent.

—O’Brien, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Part Three, Chapter 3

WHO IS ROBERT BELVEDERE?

The name Robert Belvedere is a nom de plume I have adopted for the following reason…

I adopted it when I worked for a state government entity where the overwhelming number of my fellow co-workers are Leftists — be they Masterminds, Apparatchiks, Dupes, True Believers, or Fellow Travellers.

Further: my superiors were all Leftists.  And, as a Senior Manager, I was an ’employee-at-will’ with no protection against firing. If my views were known, I would be hounded-out and/or fired.

So, here I was: wanting to be involved in the effort to Restore our Freedoms and Ordered Liberty, yet unable to speak-out in my own name. What to do?

My solution was…

1) Speak-out under a nom de plume; and

2) For Moral reasons, never comment on the branch of government I work for because it would be Unfair to do so anonymously.  And this I did.

I look forward to the day when I can use my real name, which should, Good Lord willing, happen within a few years now that I am retired.

The following list should give you an idea where I’m coming from…

PHILOSOPHY:

I like to describe myself as an 18th Century conservative. I am not an Ideologue and, therefore, do not subscribe to any ‘ist’ or ‘ism’.

I want to be left alone by the Government. I believe the Federal Government should not be allowed to take any actions not permitted by The Constitution. State and local governments should, likewise, be bound by their Constitutions and Charters.

Life is absurd.

Do not take counsel of your fears.

‘Be not afraid’.

Any man who does not have at least one vice should not be trusted.

The 17th Amendment should be repealed [and possibly the 19th].

Thomas Jefferson was a blackguard.  Vlad The Impaler was a hero.

MOST INFLUENTIAL THINKERS:

Russell Kirk, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Edmund Burke, Samuel Adams, John Adams, George Orwell, The Founding Fathers, Saint John Paul The Great, Pope Benedict XVI, J.R.R. Tolkien.

RELIGION:

I am a fallen Catholic who believes that The Catholic Church has been, and still is, a force for good in the world.  I consider myself a warrior for Saint Michael The Archangel.  I consider Francis to be an Anti-Pope.

AREAS OF HISTORICAL STUDY:

Leftism, Western Civilization, Russia from the reign of the last Tsar through the fall of the Bolsheviks and until the present day; American history up to the fall of the Federalists; the decisions of John Marshall; Dark Age/Medieval England; the Roman Republic and Empire; the military history of World War II; the American Civil War; the Cold War.

ADMIRED FICTION WRITERS:

Fydor Dostovevsky, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Leo Tolstoy, Anthony Trollope, Bernard Cornwell, James Ellroy, J.R.R. Tolkien.

ADMIRED NON-FICTION WRITERS:

Mark Steyn, Whittaker Chambers, Edmund Burke, Quin Hillyer, Robert Stacy McCain, Jeff Goldstein, Andrew McCarthy, Michael Ledeen, Roger Kimball, Victor Davis Hanson, John Derbyshire.

FAVORITE FILMS:

The Godfather, The Godfather II, The Lord Of The Rings, 1984, A Night To Remember, Damn The Defiant!, Ben Hur, Patton, Dirty Harry, 1776, My Fair Lady, The Lion In Winter, The Last Waltz.

FAVORITE TELEVISION PROGRAMS:

Upstairs Downstairs, The Pallisers, Mannix, Baretta, Deadwood, Inspector Morse. Midsomer Murders, Inspector Lewis, Miss Marple, Rome, I Claudius, Churchill: The Wilderness Years, House Of Cards [original, English version], Dragnet, Adam-12.

FAVORITE COMPOSERS/MUSICIANS:

Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Joy Division, Richard Wagner, Bill Haley And The Comets, Social Distortion, Black Sabbath, Muddy Waters, Bunny Berigan, Robert Johnson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Rainbow, Rush, Deep Purple, Dean Martin, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Lynard Skynard, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, J.S. Bach, P.D.Q. Bach, Pre-1990 Bruce Springsteen, Louis Armstrong, Julie London, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, New Order, Bauhaus, Ultravox [with John Foxx], Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, The Band.

TITLES BESTOWED:

By Capt’n Smitty over at The OtherMcCain: Sir Bob of Belvedere; by someone who, for good reasons, wishes to remain anonymous: Lord Fatheringay von Whoopsie of the Dung Heap Hooter.

ANCESTRY:

-Father’s side: Italian

-Mother’s side: Scots-Irish, English, German, American Indian. My great, great maternal grandfather served in the Union Army Company F, 5th Missouri Voluntary Calvary; his brothers and father served in the Confederate Army.

I have been involved in the music business as a composer, musician, and producer. I have always fancied that there is a great writer within me waiting to burst forth. This remains to be seen.

As Evelyn Waugh wrote of Kipling, so it applies to me: He was a conservative in the sense that he believed civilization to be something laboriously achieved which was only precariously defended. He wanted to see the defences fully manned and he hated the liberals because he thought them gullible and feeble, believing in the easy perfectibility of man and ready to abandon the work of centuries for sentimental qualms.*

I am a Renaissance Man striving to be A Man For All Seasons.

I am currently at work on a projected multi-volume, unauthorized autobiography [Make Then Think You’re Stupid… (…And They’ll Leave You Alone)].

An excellent introducton to an American thinker and patriot. I’d suggest another addition to your list of Admired Fiction Writers: Robert Heinlien. Try Starship Troopers, a book I still give as a gift to anyone I know who is about to be commissioned as an officer in the US military.

Never mind the goofy movie; read the book.

I am glad to see you read Solzhenitsyn; I have read almost all of his works and wrote a Master’s paper on him years ago. He is mmy inspiration for the struggles ahead. But I would also recommend Robert Conquest, and “We” by Evgenii Zamyatin.

I’m three years late for responding to this particular comment, I just discovered this site when I was watching Fox News and one of Trayvons’s family attorneys (jasmine Rand, not sure about her first name) was debating the case with Greta and I needed to find out if Rand was as dumb as she seemed. The first search led me to Rule 5, whichI thought was odd.
Love what I’ve read so far. The article on Detroit is great, I was born there and grew up initially in Detroit and then in the suburbs before moving to So. Cal. I don’t recognize Detroit at all anymore.

So nice to meet you; we have much in common and I’m going to enjoy adding your site to my list of daily viewing. I like your writing style very much. I too see this as friendly territory, and am glad to meet another warrior for truth. I’m not Catholic, but have long admired St. Michael the Archangel.

Deadwood, P.D.Q. Bach, Muddy Waters, early Springsteen–just a few things we have in common, in addition to the obvious, a fierce defiance against the leftist coup happening as we speak.

    Wishing you much continued success.

I have developed a list which I would like you to reference or post on your site if at all possible. It shows all of the opponents of the 219 House Dems who voted in March 2010 to pass Obamacare by listing the House Dems by state, district, general geographic area of district, and membership in the Congressional Progressive Caucus. This list is currently posted on the following website which you may want to link to:

    http://www.docs4patientcare.org

The Docs4PC website also has an interesting WSJ article written by
a doctor to his patients, “Dear Patients — please vote to repeal Obamacare”. By the way, I am not a doctor — only a patient interested in preserving our country and our current quality of healthcare.

If you would like me to forward a copy of the list in a PDF or EXCEL format which you can change in any way you wish to fit your purposes, please let me know asap — we only have 23 more days until the election. Hopefully, this list will encourage people to contribute to or vote for the opponents!

    Thanks!

Bob, this is a very interesting site. However, I’ve got to tell you one thing. Your eminently quotable quote on the Live Free or Die section uses “it’s” twice. Both wrong, sorry to say. “It’s” means it is or it has. Any other use of “its” is just that–no apostrophe.

Oh, by the way, tell Malaclypse the Younger how to spell “truly” and that the correct phrase is “between you and me” not “between you and I”.

Now, I know this sounds quite snotty and schoolmarmish, but look at it this way: The left has the support of the great unwashed, unlettered, and unemployable (outside of the government, of course). You’ll never get to them. They feed off the state. The right has to influence the classes that remain–the entrepreneurial, the self-educated, the literate. That means they have to write carefully and correctly.

Or, you could just forget about all that and talk to each other, preach to the converted, as it were.

Sir, is your sight named for the book “The Camp of the Saints” written by Jean Raspail? I’m asking because I haven’t seen any posts that deal with the scenario covered in his book, namely the death of the West through mass immigration (although this was just the symptom, the root cause was self-hatred in Western (white) peoples caused by progressed Marxism).
One other thing, do you sell t-shirts? I think a t-shirt with your symbol, NIL DESPERANDUM, and CAMP OF THE SAINTS below would be awesome! It would at least be a great conversation starter in the local pub.

That’s where I first heard the phrase and it is one of my favorite novels, not just because I agree with the message, but because I like the style in which it was written, and it’s a very gripping narrative.

So, while I am in agreement Jean Raspail’s outlook, the concept of a Camp Of The Saints, a last bastion of [Western] civilization in a world gone mad, was more influential on me in choosing the name. That would explain the motto of TCOTS: ‘Celebrating and defending Western Civilization’. The fact that it comes from a sentence in The Bible also added to the phrase’s appeal, as one of the pillars of The West is a belief in the God of Abraham.

While I am in favor of strict enforcement of immigratin laws, that is not my focus here – it it one issue among many. My biggest mission with TCOTS is to expose the thinking behind Leftism – which I consider a malignant cancer. Also, I want to reaquaint those on the Right with their History – the glories of The West that I have discovered through self-study. Further, I want to have a bit of fun and celebrate life and it’s joys and absurdities.

I hope, despite my long-windiness, that I have answered your question.

The age of the blog is a scary one. Everyone thinks what they say or think is somehow important. If you truly want to be left alone, take down this site, move to an undisclosed location, and shut up. How can someone who says they want a government that leaves them alone work for the government? How can someone who promotes the liberties of our founding fathers have a rant on Islam on his site? You are the culmination of every flawed and irrational Conservative thought. You say you’re not an ideologue, yet you then list indirectly all of the ism’s and ist’s that you subscribe to. You’re a joke.

Oh, and all of those people you list as influential, would laugh at this site. George Orwell? Are you serious? It is disgusting that you list all of these people on a site such as this. As if you’re promoting their ideas. The only thing you’re promoting is what Bill O’Reilly does every day. He sits and yells and yells and yells without really ever saying anything at all. You’re just promoting ignorance.

You have never even read any those books of which you speak of for starters, but what you are saying is that the “whites” (as you so ignorantly group all French into which makes me believe you have never wandered beyond the road from your university professors teet to your parents basement), have no rights to protect themselves from an attack; that it is only done as a racist act, and not simply an instinct for self preservation. “Come on man! It’s science!” as your brain-dead puppet would say.

So how is it not rational to want to protect oneself, to look after ones own preservation in the face of uncertainty? Please enlighten the darkened masses with the drivel you aren’t prepared to simply do on your own.

The idea that anyone should turn over anything of their own, including liberty, because of some social cause is fascism, pure and simple.

  23. 04 January 2013 @ 23:05 23:05

I think you should add the name of yet another admired writer–Dai Alanye.

But that’s incidental. Over in The Other McCain you posted this:
“The one national tax should be a single amount flat tax levied on every person eighteen years of age and older. The Congress should be required to pass a budget for the fiscal year [01 October] at least five months before the start of it. The amount needed to fund it should be calculated, divided by the number of 18+ citizens, and bills issued in July [perhaps on the 4th] with payments due on 01 September [or maybe Labor Day].”

In other words, Warren Buffett, net worth $40 billion, should pay $X, and I, net worth maybe $40, should also pay $X. To explain my opposition to this scheme I’m going to tell a story.

A division is marching across the burning desert–the sun glaring, and a parching wind blowing. Before long all canteens are empty, and soon the troops are shuffling, staggering and wandering out of file. Eventually the order to halt is given, and as the men shake and twitch word comes down that the sergeant major will address all enlisted.

“Gather round, men,” he says. “You’ll be glad to know we’ve come across a waterhole. It looks, however, as if it might not be large enough for all to share, so we’ll drink in the following order. First, the commissioned officers will drink to repletion. Then the horses, mules and camels will drink, since we depend upon them for transport. Next, the non-comms will drink in order of rank. Finally you privates, the guys who carry rifles and ninety-pound packs, get your chance for as long as the water lasts.”

The troops listen in stunned silence, too enervated to raise a protest. But then some idiot recruit pipes up, waving his arms for attention.

“Sergeant. Oh, sergeant! I think the general’s mistress should drink before us privates, and have a bath as well, if she wants.”

That idiot, Bob, is whatever guy thinks Warren Buffett and I should be paying the same tax.

    Cordially, Dai Alanye

A flat tax where you pay according to what you spend. If you buy a $100,000 Mercedes or a Smart car, a $1,000,000 mansion or a $90,000 condo; you pay a percentage of what you spend. Drug dealers, prostitutes, those that don’t declare their income get taxed. Have a fail safe tax on those that stash their income, something similar to a National tax, a baseline tax that’s minimal. Everyone that has the right to vote should pay both State and Federal Tax, this gives them the right to have a say in their fellow Americans fate.
